The Academy at West Fallowfield Christian School was the overall winner in three of the five environmental stations: Aquatics, Forestry and Wildlife. Downingtown East came in second overall and Great Valley A team came in third with the highest score in the Current Issue station. The highest station score in Soils was earned by Conestoga A team.The Chester County Conservation District and the Chester County Facilities and Parks conducted the Envirothon at Hibernia Park. This annual environmental, educational event drew students in grades 3 – 12 from public, private, parochial, and home schools throughout the county. Five student teams studied all year long to compete in Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Outdoor Safety, Wildlife, and the Current Issue of Grassland and Pasture Management.
The two-day competition was held on Wednesday, May 2 and Thursday, May 3 at the Hibernia Park. Four hundred students from across the county competed. There were 15 teams and one exhibition team from 12 high schools, 23 teams from 13 middle schools, and 38 teams from 18 elementary schools involved along with over 90 volunteers. Because of the generous support of our sponsors, students received an Envirothon tee shirt and winning teams received prizes and trophies. The senior winning team will have expenses paid to compete at the Pennsylvania State Envirothon.At the Middle School Level competition, Hopewell A came in first and had the top scores in Aquatics and Forestry. Second place was West Fallowfield Christian School with the top score in the Current Issue. The Third overall winner was Penns Grove B with a tie in the top score for Aquatics with Hopewell B. Avon Grove Charter won high score in Soils and French Creek A and West Fallowfield Christian School B tied in the top score of Wildlife.
The Elementary Chester County Envirothon was held at Hibernia Park on May 2nd. Hopewell A was the high scorer in the Aquatics and tied for top score in Current Issue along with Hopewell B, Nottingham A, and Octorara B. Nottingham A also won the top scores in Forestry and tied in Outdoor Safety with 7 other schools: East Coventry A, French Creek B, Hopewell A, Octorara A, Octorara B, Pocopson A, and Pocopson C. The Wildlife station was won by Nottingham C.
