Chester County Government Earns Top Honor for Employee Well-Being

Platinum Badge CC

The American Heart Association’s (AHA) Workforce Well-Being Scorecard awarded Chester County Government a Platinum Recognition for building “a culture of health and well-being for their workforce.” The County achieved Platinum recognition – the highest award – by scoring in the top nine percent of 381 participating organizations nationwide.

Reacting to news of the award, Chester County Commissioners’ Chair Marian Moskowitz said, “As one of the largest employers in the county, with a workforce of over 2,600, we value the physical and mental well-being of our employees. An employee’s well-being is essential to an organization’s overall health – whether it is a private business, a large corporation, or a government agency. That’s why the County created its traditional wellness program in 2007, which more than 70 percent of our employees participate in today.”

The American Heart Association’s Workforce Well-Being Scorecard assesses an organization’s culture of health by looking at its mental health policies, health equity measures, organizational well-being strategies to address burnout, and employee financial resources, among other things.

County Commissioner Josh Maxwell said, “We are honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association for our commitment to employee health and well-being, and our continued efforts to promote equity.  One thing noted as part of the platinum recognition is the generous parental leave policy the County has for both moms and dads.”

Commissioner Michelle Kichline said of the award, “As one of the top employers in the county, we strive to lead by example, with an award-winning wellness program that not only benefits our employees, but also significantly impacts – and helps to control – the ever-increasing cost of healthcare benefits.”

“We thank our Human Resources staff for their dedication to continually improving upon the wellness initiatives for all County government employees,” added Commissioner Kichline.

The American Heart Association Workforce Well-being Scorecard, part of the Association’s Well-being Works Better™ platform, helps business leaders unleash the power of a healthy, happy workforce.  Distinct from traditional wellness programs, Well-being Works Better empowers employers to champion the mental and physical health of their employees, and provides actionable guidance to meet the unique needs of their organization.
