Chris de Barrena-Sarobe is the District Attorney of Chester County. He was sworn into the office on January 1, 2024, continuing his role as a prosecutor with the responsibility of protecting the community.
Chris began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Chester County in 2009, and eventually was elevated to Deputy in charge of the Drug and Organized Crime Unit. During his time in the Drug and Organized Crime Unit, he worked with law enforcement to dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking organizations across the county.
In 2015, DA de Barrena-Sarobe left the Chester County District Attorney’s Office and became a federal prosecutor in Delaware. While in this position, he investigated and prosecuted fraud, high-level drug trafficking, illegal gun possession and gun trafficking, kidnapping, and other violent offenses committed by criminal defendants.
During the Coronavirus outbreak, DA de Barrena-Sarobe worked alongside Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Postal Inspectors (USPIS), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and other state and local law enforcement agencies to indict a Mexican cartel member and free and United States citizen being held hostage in Mexico.
In recognition for their work during the kidnapping case, Assistant United States Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr. selected Chris and his team for the 2022 Distinguished Service Award.
Now, Chris leads a team of skilled prosecutors, support staff, and detectives in the Chester County District Attorney’s Office who work around the clock to protect our community, fight for our victims, and serve the county of Chester in the pursuit of justice.
