On Thursday, August 24th, 2023, the Chester County Department of Emergency Services (CCDES) joined the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District and the Berwyn Fire Company to teach approximately 1000 staff members how to STOP THE BLEED.
STOP THE BLEED is a class created by the American College of Surgeons and is designed to teach everyone how to save lives by stopping severe bleeding. Bleeding injuries can happen anywhere and minutes count. T/E School District Staff learned how to recognize life-threatening bleeding, act quickly to control the bleeding, and save lives.
When asked, why it is important for school staff members to learn to STOP THE BLEED, CCDES Safe Schools Coordinator Nick Melchiorre stated that “Severe bleeding emergencies can happen when and where we least expect them. By teaching the T/E School District Staff how to Stop the Bleed, they are prepared for emergencies both at school and in their everyday lives outside of school.”
The skills taught in STOP THE BLEED are taught through lectures and demonstrations that are followed by skill demonstrations to allow the staff members to practice their new lifesaving skills. Eight (8) instruction sections were held throughout the day to help fulfill the goal of getting all T/E School District staff trained and prepared for emergencies that may occur.
Forward-thinking organizations like the T/E School District assist us in fulfilling the CCDES mission, to promote and assist in providing safety and security to Chester County citizens so they can work, live, and grow in a healthy and safe community.
