Chief of Detectives David M. Sassa, who has worked for Chester County Detectives since 1996, was appointed by District Attorney Ryan in January 2020 to oversee a department of 23 detectives. Before his current leadership role, Chief Sassa served as a detective in the Drug Unit and Major Case Unit. He gained extensive experience investigating homicides, robberies, narcotics, sexual assaults, and child abuse cases. Chief Sassa was promoted to sergeant in 2008 and supervised both the Major Case and Child Abuse Units.
In 2014, Chief Sassa was named Executive Director of the Chester County Children’s Advocacy Center. He was awarded the John J. Crane Award for Child Victim Advocacy in 2017 for his work protecting children.
A graduate of the Montgomery County Police Academy, Montgomery County Community College, and the FBI National Academy Class 255, Chief Sassa worked as a patrol officer, detective, and sergeant in North Coventry Township Police Department before joining Chester County Detectives.
