How to Serve on a Youth Aid Panel

Youth Aid Panel Members are volunteers who live or work in the municipality of the panel they are applying to join or have a demonstrated involvement in that community.

Serving on a Youth Aid Panel entails submitting an application, numerous background checks, five hours of YAP training, and Mandated Reporter training. Required background checks, which must comply with Pennsylvania Title 23, Chapter 63, relating to Child Protective Services, include:

  • Child abuse clearance from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare
  • Pennsylvania State Police criminal history check
  • FBI criminal history check

Sworn police officers may be prohibited from serving in their jurisdiction. Panel members are asked to serve a term of at least one year.
