Firearms Application Renewal

  • Firearms Permits are valid for 5 years. 
  • If you move, please notify the Sheriff's office of your new address Please call this office if you do not receive your permit within 45 days.
  • Please contact this office if you do not receive a renewal notice by mail 60 days prior to your expiration date.
  • You must complete an application to renew your firearm.
  • You must complete the application in its entirety, including two personal character references. We prefer that these references be Chester County residents and not immediate family members. Photos and electronic signatures will be taken in the Sheriff's office. If you are retired, please list the company which you retired from.
  • Proper identification is required and must be one of the following forms of identification:
      • PA drivers license with photograph and current Chester County address
      • State-issued non-driver's identification card with photograph and current Chester County address
  • If you are not a US citizen, you must present your immigration card.
  • The renewal application process may take up to 45 days, which is mandated by law. If your application is denied, you will be notified by mail.
  • Please return completed application in person to the Sheriffs Office - do not mail the application to our office
  • Application fee is $20. Payment must be made at time of application. Acceptable forms of payment:
    • cash
    • personal check payable to "Sheriff of Chester County"
    • certified check payable to "Sheriff of Chester County"
    • money order payable to "Sheriff of Chester County"
    • Credit and debit cards are not accepted
Personal checks returned for insufficient funds will be assessed a fee of $15 in addition to any bank charges.
