Probation & Parole

Probation
This department supervises those convicted offenders who have been placed on probation by the Court. Probation is a sentencing alternative that allows the offender to remain in the community under the supervision of a Probation Officer subject to conditions deemed appropriate by the Court.

Parole
Parole is a conditional release of an offender who has served part of their sentence in prison to serve the balance of the sentence under the supervision of a Parole Officer. The Court has parole authority for those offenders sentenced to less than 2 years of incarceration, maximum. The Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole has paroling authority for those sentenced to incarceration of 2 years or longer.
