This site is hosted by the Chester County Planning Commission, under contract with the Borough of Kennett Square through the County Vision Partnership Program (VPP) to assist the Borough in updating its 2001 Comprehensive Plan.
Regular meetings for the Comprehensive Plan update are held at the Borough Planning Commission’s regular meeting at Kennett Square Borough Hall, on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm. These meetings are open to the public.
Under the updated Pennsylvania Municipalities Plan Code (MPC), the enabling legislation for comprehensive plans, four types of plans are defined. A municipal, multi-municipal, county and specific plan. A municipal plan covers a single municipality. A comprehensive plan is not an ordinance or regulation. It is an adopted document that establishes a municipality’s planning policy and includes recommendations to meet those polices to guide land use regulation and other planning actions and decisions, typically for a 10 year timeframe. The Borough contacted the Chester County Planning Commission in interest of utilizing the County’s VPP program to update the Borough’s 2001 comprehensive plan by 2011 in accordance with the Municipalities Planning Code.

Residents are encouraged to submit to the Borough photographs and/or lists of things they would like to see encouraged or things that are important to the Borough, and lists of things they would like to see improved or discouraged. Examples include submissions from two Kennett Middle School students who participated in the "After the Bell" program.
