Established in 1972 under Act 63, the Chester County Department of Drug and Alcohol Services has functioned as a distinct department since 1980.
The Department has been designated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Chester County Commissioners as the Single County Authority (SCA) to plan, implement, and monitor local addictions prevention, intervention, and treatment services. The Department plans and coordinates the type of services for each part of the county and for different types of client needs. These services are purchased from private subcontracting agencies. Contracts with Chester County agencies, as well as other agencies located throughout eastern Pennsylvania, provide:
- Prevention
- Intervention
- Detoxification
- Non-hospital residential treatment
- Halfway house
- Outpatient counseling
- Intensive outpatient counseling
- Partial hospitalization
- Hospital rehabilitation
The goal of all services provided by this Department is to increase the self-sufficiency of clients and communities.
