Tips for applying for a passport:
Tip One – The requirements for a birth certificate have changed.  Please visit the state department website using the link above for the most current requirements.
Tip Two – applications must be filled out using black ink.
Tip Three – Do not sign the application prior to arrival.
Tip Four – You may be able to get your passport photos in the Justice Center, call 610-344-6850 and select option 1 to confirm this the day before you arrive - bring a separate check for this!
Tip Five – Bring multiple checks or money orders.  There are two separate fees for each passport application.  One fee is a processing fee for the Prothonotary.  One fee is for the passport itself and will be forwarded to the state department.  The Prothonotary processing fee may be check or cash and may be combined for multiple applications.  The state department fee must be a check and may NOT be combined for multiple applications.  Each individual application must be accompanied by a separate check.  Neither the state department or the Prothonotary's office accept debit or credit cards.
Example:  A family of four may pay in the following manner:
One check for $100.00 to the Prothonotary = four $25.00 processing fees.
Four separate checks in the appropriate fee amounts for the state department to accompany each application.

This is a total of five checks and would be the minimum number of checks required to complete the above transaction.  Should you also be purchasing photos, a separate check would be required for that transaction.
