Commissioners proclaim support for Black History Month during February.

In honor of Black History month, we are sharing the link to an important film that traces family narratives of three African American Civil War veterans, two of whom served with distinction in historic Pennsylvania Colored Troop units in key battles in that historic national conflict. The film, produced in Dauphin County, is being made available for free distribution by the Dauphin County Commissioners, The National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg and its many civic and private sponsors.

The film brings their dramatic stories to life and traces their heroism and profound influence on their families and communities from slavery through the Civil War and its aftermath to contemporary times in Harrisburg. Through this fascinating narrative of family histories in the 19th and 20th centuries, the viewer arrives at a greater understanding of the remarkable African American legacy and its contribution to American History and the meaning of fundamental American Constitutional freedoms for all Americans.

View the film here  https://vimeo.com/174873765/fadfe296d4.   We encourage you to share this film with  high school history teachers, libraries, churches and community organizations.
