The Health Department ensures that certain minimum standards are maintained for residents who live in rental housing. These standards are essential to good health, and necessary to make dwellings safe, sanitary, and fit for human habitation. In Chester County, some municipalities have their own codes department. Please check the codes listing below before contacting the Health Department with a housing complaint.
These municipalities have primary jurisdiction over housing conditions, in particular conditions not relevant to public health (high grass/weeds, abandoned vehicles, junk/debris accumulations). If you live in one of these municipalities and have a housing complaint, please contact the code enforcement office for your area. If you live in a municipality that does not have a code enforcement office, please call 610-344-6225 or email us to report a complaint.
